(NewYork.CityRegions.Com, September 04, 2012 ) Uniondale, NY -- The professional ice hockey team of Uniondale, New York are all set to return to the Nassau Coliseum as the 2012-2013 NHL season opens on October.
Although the regular season games will begin on the 11th of October, the Islanders will be back at the Coliseum as early as October 4 for their only preseason home game against the New York Rangers. They will play the remaining six preseason games in six cities across North America. Their first two preseason games will be a pair of split squad games both scheduled on September 27 and will match them with the Edmonton Oilers.
The third preseason game is scheduled for September 29 at the Prudential Center where they will play against the defending Eastern Conference Champion, the New Jersey Devils.
This will be followed by another pair of split squad games against the Ottawa Senators. The two games will be played on September 30 and will be held at The Barrie Moulson Centre in Barrie and Scotiabank Place in Ottawa.
The sixth game will mark the Islanders’ first time in Brooklyn as they face up against the New Jersey Devils on October 2 before they head home to the Nassau Coliseum.
In preparation for the upcoming season, the New York Islanders 2012 Training Camp is set to begin on September 21, Friday.
After the preseason games, the Islanders will have a short breather before they officially open the 2012-2013 season, the 41st season in the franchise, with an October 12 game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Their first home game will be on October 13 against the Philadelphia Flyers.
This season, The New York Islanders will once again attempt to qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs, which they haven’t qualified for since the 2006-2007 NHL season.
For this season, the Islanders will be led by general manager Garth Snow, coach Jack Capuano, captain Mark Streit, and alternate captains Kyle Okposo, Steve Staios, and John Tavares.
Their home will still be the Nassau Coliseum, also known as the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, which saw the Islanders win four consecutive Stanley Cup Championships in the early 1980s. Back then, it was proudly dubbed as the Fort Neverlose by the Islanders’ fans.
Aside from housing the Islanders’ home games, the Coliseum has also played host to several sold-out events including Pink Floyd concerts, Billy Joel shows, and World Wresting Federation events. All Nassau Coliseum tickets are available at ACheapSeat.com.
