(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 19, 2012 ) Wading River, NY—Bob Dougherty, local owner of Fleet Appliance Repair, is helping to inform the people of Wading River how to get the best performance out of their dishwasher. The dishwasher has saved us much time in the kitchen and is an appliance most of use everyday. Yet the dishwasher efficiency depends upon the user.
Bob is often asked for advice on how they as a homeowner can help to improve the efficiency of a dishwasher. Bob has given us a few of his tips listed below, but also suggests that one should check out Fleet Appliance Repair Wading River website at:

Dishwasher Tips from Bob Dougherty of Fleet Appliance Repair:
· LOADING: Yes there is a proper way to load a dishwasher; one should follow the dishwasher manufacturer’s instructions. Loading properly will allow for proper water circulation.
· DETERGENT: Use one teaspoon of soap per grain of water hardness. Use the appropriate water temp. With the detergent, refer to box. Use a quality brand of detergent.
· RINSE ADDITIVIES: Rinse additives greatly improve the drying. They allow the water to drain from the dishes after the final rinse. They also prevent water spots and streaking. Most dishwashers will have a liquid dispenser that holds about 5 ounces of rinse additive; this should last 1 to 3 months. Fill when rinse aid indicator falls to “add” level. The rinse aid setting can be adjusted according to water quality, with hard water requiring a higher setting.
· FILTER: Some dishwashers have a filter in the bottom. If this is the case then pull out the filter, rinse it and clean it thoroughly.
Another frequently asked question about dishwashers by a homeowner is how to clean the inside of stains or how to freshen up the inside of the dishwasher.
· CLEANING: There are many tips out there one is to place a coffee cup filled with vinegar in the dishwasher rack and run it through a complete cycle using the hottest setting. If there are stubborn stains add some lemon juice to or cut an orange in half and rubbing it on the stains. Now don’t just toss that orange into the garbage, take the orange and cut if from a half to a quarter and put these quarters down the disposal to freshen and clean the kitchen sink disposal. Last but not least, wipe down the outside of the dishwasher using a mild detergent. And, don’t forget to clean the top, bottom and side edges of the door.
