(NewYork.CityRegions.Com, November 21, 2012 ) The Bronx, New York City – Mariano Rivera is known as one of the best players of the New York Yankees, but his season ended in May of this year because he has torn the ACL in his right knee. However, he is spotted on a mound pitching—not for the Yankees, but for the signature fragrance of the team, which will be named after him.
“Rehab has been great… I can’t wait and stay 100 times… You have to make sure that my knee gets stronger,” says Rivera when asked by journalists about his health and his eventual return to the team. He is very hopeful about the extension of his baseball career, and he says that he does not want to end the 2012 season with an injury.
As one of the most prominent landmarks in The Bronx in New York, the Yankee Stadium has always been the venue of choice for many sporting teams, event organizers, and musicians. The stadium opened its doors to the public in April 2009, making it one of the one of the “youngest” event venues in the country, but with its list of illustrious events, the Yankee Stadium is definitely up in the big leagues. The stadium is the home ballpark for the New York Yankees, which is one of New York City’s Major League Baseball (or MLB) franchises.
The Yankee Stadium opened just in time for the beginning of the MLB 2009 season, and was built as a replacement for the original Yankee Stadium. The predecessor and namesake of the current stadium opened its doors in 1923 and remained open until 2008. The new ballpark was in fact constructed across (north-northeast) the street of the 1923 Yankee Stadium, right on the former site of the Macombs Dam Park. During its opening on April 2, 2009, players from the New York Yankees hosted a workout day in front of their fans from the community of The Bronx. The very first game played on the ballpark was a pre-season exhibition game between the New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs, with the home team winning by 7-4. The first regular season game in the Yankee Stadium was played on the 16th of April, where the Yankees lost to the Cleveland Indians with 10-2.
Fans of the original stadium will notice that there are various design elements incorporated into the new Yankee Stadium, which pays the much deserved-homage to the long history of the Yankees. This new stadium features more than four thousand club seats and 68 luxury suites. The new stadium is also 500,000 square feet bigger than the old stadium, which makes it more appropriate for high profile events that attract audiences of millions.
